Being productive in your home office can be hard- especially if it’s one of those working days that seems never-ending, or if it’s closer to the weekend. Here at We Buy Any House, we have compiled our top tips on how to make your home office more productive.

Find the Quietest Space in Your House:

Although you may want a little background noise while you’re working, it’s a good idea to start by finding the quietest space in your home to work in. Setting up your home office in a busy part of the house isn’t the greatest idea, as you can easily become distracted and lose efficiency. Therefore, choosing a space that is quieter and has less distractions is the perfect space to start with. At the very least, make sure the room you choose as your office has a door.

But Do Keep Distractions Handy…

Sometimes our brains can’t work all the time. Therefore, it’s expected that you will take mini breaks for your brain, as a way to just gather your thoughts and reset before you get back to work. Therefore, it’s a good idea to have something which can be used as a distraction for you to do during your brain breaks. Perhaps download an app, or have a book at hand, or an instrument to keep yourself occupied.

Make Sure the Space is Comfortable:

You need to be comfortable in your office- but not that comfortable that you end up falling asleep. However, it’s extremely difficult to be productive and focused when you are uncomfortable- for example, straining to see a screen, or arching your back to reach the computer. Therefore, it’s a good idea to find a way to make your space more comfortable. Find yourself an office chair that can adjust to your comfort level, a suitable desk and lighting that doesn’t hurt your eyes.

Keep Decluttering:

When it comes to offices and desks, clutter tends to gather rapidly. It’s important that you keep decluttering your home office, and make sure that purging the space becomes a habit. It’s easy to let snacks, drink cups and bits of paper pile up around you- which are all things that don’t serve purpose.

Dress for the Office:

When you’re working from home, it can be easy to slip into a comfortable outfit and assume that because you’re at your home office, no one will notice if you are wandering around in your t-shirt or dressing gown. However, it’s a good idea to force yourself to get dressed and look the part for the day. Remember, lookingthe part will make you feel the part.

Work With a Purpose:

Home offices can be a bit distracting when you have the luxury of working by yourself. Therefore, it’s important to be as proactive as possible. Create mini to-do lists that you can accomplish, and then you will see your productivity soar.
